Installation steps (Google Chrome, Windows or Mac)

  1. Download the extension (ZIP) Download it from the CloudDesk server you use: it contains that server's security key.
  2. Right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All… (Windows) or double-click it (Mac). Keep the extracted folder somewhere permanent, such as Documents\CloudDesk-Extension. Chrome keeps using that folder, so do not delete it.
  3. In Chrome, open chrome://extensions in the address bar.
  4. Turn on Developer mode (top right).
  5. Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder, the one that contains manifest.json.
  6. Make sure CloudDesk Browser Control is on in the list and shows version 1.8.0 (remove any older CloudDesk card first). Pin it to the toolbar if you want quick access.
  7. Click Details on the card and check that Site access is On all sites (the default). With “On click”, CloudDesk shows Blocked on this site.
  8. Come back to this page. The status turns to Installed · ready by itself within a few seconds. If it does not, press Check Extension.

What the extension does and does not do

  • Nothing happens until someone in your meeting presses Request Chrome Access and you press Accept. The CloudDesk server checks every step; the extension only accepts approvals signed by your CloudDesk server.
  • After you accept, that person can see and control the tabs of the Chrome window your meeting is in (not CloudDesk itself, Chrome pages, other windows or incognito). Sites you are logged in to in that window are visible to them.
  • Chrome shows a “CloudDesk started debugging this browser” bar while control is active. That is Chrome’s required notice; it cannot be hidden.
  • It never controls Windows, File Explorer, other applications or your desktop, and it never records the whole screen.
  • You can take back control (view only) or revoke at any time: Take back control / Revoke Access in the meeting, or in the extension’s toolbar popup (it shows LIVE while access is on).
  • Access ends when you revoke it, the time limit is reached, the meeting ends, either person leaves or disconnects, the page reloads, or the browser restarts. It never comes back by itself: a new request and a new Accept are needed.
  • It reads no passwords, cookies or history and records nothing.
